“Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?” And so goes our early onset childhood cliffhanger and one of life’s greatest unanswered questions. No one really ever showed the way, despite an entire theme song being dedicated to it, which in fact signalled our introduction to the alphabet, geometry and well-loved characters such as Big Bird, Elmo, Oscar the Grouch, Grover Count von Count, and Ernie and Bert. Even Cookie Monster was of no help, instead leading us to use Waze and Google Maps. Great.
While we are nowhere near finding out how we can get to the colorful, fun and fancy-free world of Sesame Street, we still have character clips littered all over the Internet, movies culling on the memory, and now, a retail collaboration that is set to dominate our streetwear wardrobe. Continuing a creative partnership with Brooklyn-based artsit, Kaws, Uniqlo announced the rolling out of the special Kaws x Sesame Street UT (Uniqlo T-shirt) collection. Set to drop in stores on June 29, the collaboration will once again meld the unique whimsical take of the artist on the beloved characters from the cultural and educational pillar of many a childhood.
A celebration of pop culture unparalleled, the Kaws collaboration has seen the transformation of the humble t-shirt into canvasses of art that hinges on expression, individuality and nostalgia. The Uniqlo UT range features iconic graphic realizations that range from restrained to unapologetically in your face. Sure, the mystery of Sesame Street’s locale may forever be a mystery, but with the Uniqlo x Kaws offering, we can at least tide our nostalgia over for as long as we see fit.
The range will be available in large stores: SM Megamall, Robinsons Magnolia, SM Makati, SM Aura, SM Mall of Asia, C3 Annex Bonifacio High Street, Ayala Vertis North, SM North Edsa, UP Town Center, and Uptown Mall.
