In today’s episode of Expecially For You, Vice Ganda draws inspiration from a searchee, and bares her mane at its realest form
Apart from old and new flames of romantic love that get the spotlight during “Expecially For You,” there is also a discussion on self-love in this segment of It’s Showtime. Earlier today, Vice Ganda proved this yet again. How? By removing her wig.
The empowering gesture was inspired by April, the searcher for today’s noontime show segment. Revealing to the audience that she has alopecia, she also bravely admitted that she was wearing a wig. For her, this was her way of managing her self-confidence.
“Lahat tayo kailangan ng may kinakapitan sa buhay,” Vice Ganda remarked. “It’s a process. But kung yung taong ‘yun, nakuhang magtanggal ng wig sa harap mo, isa lang ang ibig sabihin nun—mahal ka niya at mahalaga ka sa kanya. Kampante siya sa’yo. Sigurado na siyang ‘di mo siya huhusgahan.”
With hair as a symbol of evolution and power, wigs have become a form of self-expression to experiment looks without commitment, and to allow us to redefine who we are.

Beauty Beyond Boundaries
Wigs have become synonymous with empowerment in the beauty industry. For many, they provide an opportunity to express their true selves. Celebrities like Lady Gaga have popularized the use of extravagant wigs, promoting the idea that beauty can be fluid and dynamic. Moreover, wigs play a crucial role for individuals experiencing hair loss due to medical conditions as they offer normalcy and confidence.
In the LGBTQ+ community, wigs are used to explore and affirm one’s gender identity. By donning different wigs, individuals can explore various facets of their identity and express themselves in ways that feel authentic and liberating. Apart from Vice Ganda’s empowering move today, she has also stressed an important message on self-love through her past “Magpasikat 2019” performance.
In Pop Culture
Television shows, movies, and social media have significantly contributed to the wig renaissance. Series like RuPaul’s Drag Race have showcased the skill involved in wig artistry. Social media platforms have demonstrated wig hacks, styling tips, and transformation videos, making wigs more accessible and less stigmatized.
Vice Ganda uses her hair as a form of self-expression and power
Vice Ganda’s move on Showtime resonates with many who use wigs not just as an accessory, but as an extension of their identity. Whether for fashion, function, or fun, wigs allow reinvention, proving that sometimes, a change of hair can lead to a change of heart.
