Always in her total performer disposition, this was how Vina Morales answered Lea Salonga’s question if she was ready for her Broadway debut. “I am ready.”
“For those who [don’t] know, I auditioned for Here Lies Love more than 10 years ago, and [that’s] why our director Alex Timbers and David Byrne are familiar with me,” she revealed on Instagram. In the same post, she compiled some clips of her audition, including her self-shoot video. The Broadway breakout star also thanked Lea, who played the same role, for serving as her coach during the process of getting the role.
In her interview with Boy Abunda, the host pointed out, “Good things come to those who wait.” Morales agreed and said, “Check[ed] bucket list! It’s a dream come true.”
Throughout Vina’s showbiz career, acting and singing have always been part of her craft. In 1986, she joined Sharon Cuneta in Nakagapos Ang Puso, marking it as her debut into the world of film and television industry. Her rendition of Rey Valera’s “Pangako Sa’yo” for the 2000 series of the same name is considered as one of the most remarkable soundtracks for Philippine soap operas until today. In addition to her extensive discography and filmography, she is also the first Filipino performer at the New York International Music Festival.
With almost four decades of her life dedicated to honing and showcasing her world class, it is no surprise that the singer-actress is set to conquer bigger, better, and brighter stages. Fellow Filipino performers, including Lea herself, as well as Jessa Zaragoza, Arnel Pineda, Donna Cruz, and many more, sent their well wishes to the theater actress.
Break a leg on the Broadway stage, Vina!
