This is your sign to nurture your adventurous spirit with fun beach activities and water sports at these local destinations
Getting into water sports is a great idea for vacations since they encourage physicality and fun. Swimming and snorkeling are particular fan favorites, but you can do so much more while at the beach. Take advantage of our country’s archipelagic nature by experimenting with varied water activities the next time you book a trip by the beach.
Here, we list down five of our favorite activities and where you can go to do them this summer. However, make sure you take the weather into account before booking as heavy rains and winds would endanger you and could cause your plans to get canceled altogether.
Kitesurfing
Tougher than regular surfing, kitesurfing can have a steep learning curve for beginners that are not used to sports that leave you at the whim of your environment. Nonetheless, kitesurfing is great fun once you know how to do it. For this reason, you should book lessons first where they’re available at your nearest beach. Also known for its kitesurfing activities, Boracay is a top destination for this due to the expansive sea, fast winds, and beautiful views.
Windsurfing
Similarly, you may find windsurfing difficult to master the first few times you do it, but it’s no less achievable. You’ll also find the experience of braving the sea with only the wind propelling your board’s wing exhilarating and something to share with all your friends. For an established location for windsurfing, look no further than islands like Cuyo and Boracay.
Jet skiing
Jet skiing is a less physically demanding activity if you’re not racing for sport, but it’s an exciting experience all the same. The best part about this is that there’s hardly a learning curve once you get a hang of steering and how fast to go. It’s also a little more accessible since many beach-front resorts in the country, such as ones in Mactan, Cebu, offer guided jet skiing.
Stand-up paddle boarding
As an alternative to the more intense sports listed above, stand-up paddle boarding is a calmer yet still fun way to enjoy the open water. Doing this lets you take a more scenic route when island or lagoon hopping in places like El Nido or Coron. Stand-up paddle boarding is also a water sport that you can enjoy with your furry friends or children as the boards are typically well-balanced enough to carry the extra weight.
Kayaking
Likewise, kayaking is a great way to immerse yourself in your surroundings. This water sport is also something you can do alongside your family and friends. Location-wise, you can look into kayaking opportunities in rivers at Bohol, but touristy spots like Coron are also great destinations to do this in. However, keep in mind that you should research ahead of time how rough the waters will be because it would make navigating very difficult, especially if you’re a beginner or will be accompanied by younger children.
