Most people prefer their brew strong, while some are inclined to something more sweet. But as for the beauty community? Fans are more in favor of expressing their affinity for coffee through makeup. Imagine this—swishes of earthy eyeshadow palettes on the lids completed with a slash of a complementing nude shade on the lips. All that is to say, latte makeup is the perfect upgrade from the ever-popular vanilla girl aesthetic.

Latte makeup looks as good as it sounds, and beautytok would agree. In fact, threads such as #LatteMakeup garnered 62.4 million views, while #EspressoMakeup collected 353 thousand views. And while the category appeals as a short-term trend, its core is versatile enough to be a perennial inspiration in the beauty department for good.
What is latte makeup?
Latte makeup is all about bronze and brown tones. The look primarily focuses on shades of brown with a wash of shimmer. Think more of it as the perfect segue for the modern glam and clean girl aesthetic. The result? No-fail face card that is warm and glowy. Moreover, it comes with a subtle contour that creates a cohesive and sculpted finish.
How to achieve latte makeup?
Achieving the look can be done in several ways, but an easy method is one that is shown by content creator Stephanie Hui. In her tutorial, the makeup enthusiast scribbled on a creamy brown liner at her upper lash line and smudged it with a detail brush. “I like to use pencil liner first because the eyeshadow that goes on top of it will last a lot longer,” she explained. “It will give you enough definition while maintaining that soft look as opposed to putting the eyeliner after.”
Once accomplished, she dipped her brush into a warm-toned brown color and swished it on her lids. “I’m going to add a copper shimmer at the part where the light naturally hits my lids,” she demonstrated. Her pro tip? Ditch the brush and use your fingers for more pigment. Then, she applied a black pencil liner to her upper waterline and a brown pencil liner to her lower waterline. Hui completed the look by applying a multi-use stick on her lids for a fresh out-of-the-water glow.
How to achieve espresso makeup?
Consider espresso makeup as the femme fatale sister of the trend. The twist? The look’s signature intense smokey eye. In a tutorial by Danielle Marcan, the content creator began by blending a deeper shade of brown liner on her upper and lower lid. “Next, take some cocoa shade eyeshadow,” she instructed. “And then set this and bring it up to your brow.” Once set, the artist defined her eyes with a black pencil liner and mascara. Elsewhere, Marcan completed the look with a complementing nude lipstick.
