Gucci’s surprise collaboration with Adidas brings a touch of geek chic to hype culture.

Before the models even hit the runway at Gucci’s Exquisite 2022 Fall/Winter presentation, the mirror-filled venue was already buzzing as celebrity guests took their front-row seats. This includes fashion’s hottest couple of the moment, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky who made their Milan Fashion Week debut.
Continuing their streak of sartorial hits, Rihanna wore a latex and lace crop top that showed off her belly with a massive purple fur coat layered on top. However, it was Rocky’s fit that gave a major hint–wearing a pair of orange leather Adidas gloves while clutching onto a Gucci monogrammed suitcase–to what the show was about to reveal.
After a couple of the Italian fashion houses’ signature, eclectic pieces opening the show, the world-famous three stripes logo slowly made its way into the collection. From hybrid tracksuit-formal suits, footwear, and even accessories like hats, gloves, and headscarves, Alessandro Michele used the collection to officially confirm their collaboration with Adidas.
Compared to the luxury brand’s collaboration with Balenciaga–which was a union of luxury tailoring–working with the German sports giant means a meeting of two opposing creative codes: the jock and the geek. Adidas’s signature three stripes raced down along capes, prairie dresses, and coats, sporty textiles were combined with leather and lace, and even Adidas striped and Gucci monogrammed corsets were placed over taffeta and velvet gowns.
The ultra-covetable accessories also featured an Adidas-stamped version of Gucci’s Diana tote which is the brand’s homage to Diana, Princess of Wales, alongside fingerless gloves that are making a comeback, and ankle-high boots displaying the three stripes.
The release date of the Gucci x Adidas collaboration is said to drop later this year.
