Why Lady Gaga Is Donning an Oversized Marc Jacobs Suit at an ELLE Event

Pop music icon Lady Gaga garnered much-deserved attention for her performance on A Star is Born, a film she co-stars Bradley Cooper with. This time, Lady Gaga makes a big statement while wearing a relatively big suit with a bigger reason behind it.

Lady Gaga is always on the watch-out-for list for her dramatic yet glamorous looks in the red carpet. But last night, Lady Gaga stripped down as she ditched pretty dresses, put on the pants, and wore a low bun.

The internet is laughing at how unlikely the Marc Jacobs suit looked on Lady Gaga during an honoring of ELLE Women in Hollywood event last night. However, the joke is on all of us after she delivers her empowering speech that touches every woman.

“What does it really mean to be a woman in Hollywood? We are not just objects to entertain the world. We are not simply images to bring smiles or grimaces to people’s faces,” Gaga said in her speech. “We are voices. We have deep thoughts and ideas and beliefs and values about the world and we have the power to speak and be heard and fight back when we are silenced.”

Gaga admits that before the event, the pressure was heavy.

The people around her were suggesting tons of pretty dresses by designers like Rodarte, Brandon Maxwell, Calvin Klein, and Dior. However, she followed her gut after fitting the oversized man suit from the Spring ’19 collection by Marc Jacobs. “And then I began to cry. In this suit, I felt like me today. In this suit, I felt the truth of who I am well up in my gut.”

Lady Gaga is a sexual assault survivor by someone in the entertainment industry. However, at the time that it was happening, Lady Gaga was 19 and scared. Speaking up about it was not an option. Gaga was also scared to mention the name of her perpetrator. “As a woman who was conditioned at a very young age to listen to what men told me to do, I decided today I wanted to take the power back. Today I wear the pants.”

At the end of her speech, Lady Gaga thanked her fiance, revealing that she is indeed engaged with her boyfriend of more than a year and talent agent, Christian Carino. The two were rumored to be engaged in summer of 2017.

For a woman as powerful as Lady Gaga, it’s quite surprising that she is still held back by outside forces that she cannot fight for years. Now, after her most shattering and unexpected red carpet look, it’s safe to say that Lady Gaga is a woman of her own.
