Why the ‘Alabang Mom’ is Gen Z’s Version of ‘Girl Boss’, As Seen in Rain Matienzo’s Skits

TikTok superstar and actress Rain Matienzo’s well-loved character is a fun, entertaining persona. But here’s why she’s also relatable

Dubbed as “Tiktok’s Conyo Girl”, digital entertainer Rain Matienzo has created another character so deeply embedded into Filipino culture—the kinds of moms you see lounging in Rockwell or Alabang. She plays this character so well in tone, voice, and expression, and it shows with the response she gets from her viewers. We’ve come to love this series so much, and here’s three reasons why Gen Zs want a piece of that ‘Alabang mom’ life.

TikTok star and rising actress Rain Matienzo creates entertaining and relatable content on her TikTok

1. She’s fashionable

In the skits, we see Rain donning designer bags, one-shoulder blouses with gold jewelry, maxi patterned dresses, and stylish sleeveless blouses—even when she’s only at ‘home’. Sometimes, we see her in sunglasses, cardigans, and blazers, but one thing is for certain: wherever she is, you’ll catch this Alabang mom always styled and put together, like she meticulously combed through her wardrobe before stepping out the door.

2. She’s a ‘doing-her-best’ mom

It’s not easy being a stay-at-home mom, and Rain makes sure this is emphasized in her skits. This character, like other moms, manages the household and shapes the family—so salute to all the moms who make a house feel like a home while being a responsible parent. Iñigo’s (the fictional son) soccer practice, plays, card days, and Christmas parties? She’s ever so present, you can find her handing out gifts to Iñigo’s teachers and running the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) as the president. She’s a competitive school parent, supportive cheerleader on game days, and she’s heavily invested in her son’s life and friends.

3. She prioritizes work-life balance

Rain nails the kikay and kulit qualities of this character, and also adds in how more than her household and family, she also has other hobbies and a good grasp of balance with her other affairs. She makes sure to get brunch out with friends, hangs out in Alabang, schedules her gym and self-care appointments and follows through religiously. She even invests on new real estate development with her husband. Go, Mom!

With these skits, Rain is changing the meaning of Trophy Wife. Once you win her over, the ‘prize’, there’s a lot she brings to the table. She’s financially secure enough to work when she wants to but handles responsibilities just as any mom and wife does, she’s gorgeous and takes care of herself, she’s fiercely loyal and ‘girl-bossing’ in her own right—ambitious and successful because running the PTA or getting the groceries done is no easy feat. This character is fulfilled in her role as a woman, as a mother, and a wife, and there’s nothing wrong with that or wanting that for your future.

It’s then easy to see why her videos get so much reception from the Gen Z community. While Rain embodies this persona, sometimes it’s fun to imagine having the same qualities in the future for those who want to be moms.
