Beauty Talks
TELL US ABOUT YOUR CAREER JOURNEY FROM EXPLORING HAIRSTYLING TO TRAINING BEAUTY QUEENS?
I started by being a fashion designer first before I discovered my love and passion for hairstyling. I was doing several pageants in college when I started doing hair and it felt like I was styling real-life Barbie dolls. Then my training in pageants led me to my queens now. Pageants are a different kind of hairstyling, but I think I bring that extra edge and fashion sensibility to the pageant world.
WHAT WAS YOUR ‘PINCH ME’ MOMENT AND THE FAVORITE LESSON YOU GOT FROM WORKING IN THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY?
One was when I saw my work on a billboard in EDSA. I once promised myself that I will achieve that, and I couldn’t believe that I did. A good lesson I learned is to always be passionate and dedicated with whatever you do. And of course, be kind always.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE FAVORITE LOOKS YOU EVER DID?
There are actually a lot! One was the homecoming look of Pia. I wanted her hair to look like its being blown away by the wind.
CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE SPECIAL BOND YOU HAVE WITH YOUR MUSES?
My muses and I collaborate a lot on their looks. We always share ideas and talk about what’s next for their hair journey. And yes, we grew closer together and have that special bond where it doesn’t feel like work when I’m in a shoot with them.
YOU HAVE QUITE A FOLLOWING ON YOUTUBE AND YOUR VIDEOS HAVE A SIGNATURE STYLE, WHAT MAKES YOUR CHANNEL STAND OUT?
I always look for new ways to expand or improve my work and I think it’s time to share it with others. I’ve only been on YouTube for a year and let’s just say it’s not that easy, but I make it a point to produce high-quality videos that people and other hairstylists can learn more about me and the craft.
HOW HAS YOUR BEAUTY STYLE EVOLVED FROM THE START OF YOUR CAREER?
It has evolved a lot! But I still kept that fashionable chic edge that I’ve always had.
FROM PLATINUM BLONDE TO FIERY RED, WHAT’S YOUR TOP TIP FOR TRYING BOLD HAIRSTYLES?
If you want to try something, do it! Hair grows back. Just be sure to go to the professionals and leave it up to them. I go to Koop studio and Mattie G who always does an amazing job!
WHAT ABOUT THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY DO YOU WANT TO CHANGE AND LIKE BEST?
I love how passionate the industry people are and how friendly everyone is but that translates to competition, and we can’t help it. Sometimes it gets bad but nothing we can’t manage.
ARE THERE ANY BEAUTY MOVEMENTS THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE IN THE FUTURE?
I’d love to see more people experiment with their hair!
