Take part in rebuilding the nation with the ongoing voter registration and upcoming elections
Every year on our country’s Independence Day, thousands and thousands of Filipinos eagerly show their love for the nation and express their ardor for the freedom bestowed upon them. And annually without fail, they take to social media to make their voices heard and seek to witness a country reborn: a new Philippines.
The NewPH Legacy
Heeding the clamor of our fellow Filipinos for a better sovereign, MEGA has served as the platform for people to make their opinions known and tackle hard-to-swallow social issues that the citizens face. And so, the New PH was born. The first New PH campaign in 2015 was dubbed “The Mindset Revolution” and shed light to the movement #BuyPhilippines, showing loyalty to all things Pinoy-made.
This first New PH served as the vigorous foundation for all succeeding campaigns, and gave us a glimpse of how driven the citizens are to improve the state of the nation. A list of meritorious individuals file into the MEGA studios to get their New PH portraits taken. These photos would then be used as their social media avatars on Independence Day to display a great nationwide unity. Since its conception, this social media campaign has been an iconic event that Filipinos look forward to.
Picking up from the “revolution” theme of 2015, the 2016 campaign called “The New PH Unite” celebrated connections, openness, inclusiveness, and compassion, and understanding that these are the keys to a brighter and more diverse reality.
By 2017, the world was beginning to recognize the great, growing power of millennials, and how this generation is taking over as the new torchbearers of the industry. Hence, that year’s New PH campaign was entitled “The MEGA Millennial Ball.” Keeping the spotlight on the younger generation, the MEGA Millennial Ball made a more explosive return in 2018. This back-to-back theme showed just how influential the millennials are becoming, and how they’re proving that they deserve to be the next great leaders of the country. This also saw the homecoming of the beloved Filipino fashion designer, Furne One, as he celebrated his 25th anniversary in the industry.
Retaining relevant social issues and topics at the forefront of every New PH campaign, 2019’s MEGA Equality Ball gave pride to to everyone, including the LGBTQIA+ community. This special campaign called for equal rights and highlighted the struggle for acceptance and compassion.
The Ballot Cry
And now, in the new age where the whole world is arrested by an invisible threat, and the nation coming to greet a new opportunity to have a better country, this year’s New PH seeks to rekindle hope for a better tomorrow in the hearts of Filipinos. The 2021 New PH, aptly named “The Ballot Cry,” shifts its gaze onto the power of the people, uniting as one. With voter registration season happening until September and election season approaching next year, it’s high time we, the citizens, practice our right to vote for a future that serves us all.
A wordplay on “battle cry,” The Ballot Cry campaign seeks to give people the platform to voice out their political opinions online and encourage all of them, young and old, to be responsible citizens of our nation. This is to raise awareness and urge action among Filipinos to make big changes in the country, one single vote at a time.
With the challenge of the pandemic still upon us, the New PH’s photo campaign continues on in the homes of participants. Each individual is invited to take their own photo, while incorporating this year’s thematic design for the layout. Serving as the backdrop of the participants, three unique Facebook frame and Instagram filter designs to be used will portray the recent viral news circulating local social media: ones that have made headlines and became trending online, a reminder of present-day Philippines, and what scenarios we can change through the simple act of voting.
The first design depicts government bodies and armed forces presenting the duality in apathy and assistance, being silent and outspoken, showing restraint and taking action. The second displays a digital world, centered on the fast-paced online channels, innovative social media content through new technologies, and highly-visible news. And the third gives light to the medical and environmental climate based on the past year’s pandemic struggles, qualms, and rampantly-changing lifestyles that directly affect the earth and its inhabitants. These designs are stylized as black and white line art to represent the stark reality that we’re in now.
The Echo of Change
While the previous New PH campaigns peaked and stopped on the same day, June 12 of every year, the 2021 Ballot Cry will last until September 2021—the end of voter registration. Supporting articles, videos, and photos related to the cause will be provided by all of One Mega’s brands to permeate all social media platforms. This will retain a steady flow of information to future and existing voters alike on the importance of their votes and making their thoughts count.
Each brand under One Mega’s roster will also be executing special content made for their patrons. The leading title, MEGA, will focus on surrounding topics on nationalism, politics, and everything Filipino, as well as recognizing sets of individuals and their contributions to society.
