Yayoi Kusama Pieces Made an Appearance in Louis Vuitton’s Cruise Show

By

While we wait for Yayoi Kusama’s pieces to hit the stores in January 2023, the Maison gave the fashion world a little tease into the collection in their Cruise 2023 show

What makes a collection one-of-a-kind? We have seen countless concepts after concepts, which are differentiated with a certain artistry that is personal and unique to the designer. And while some may conclude that trends are being recycled and simply modernized by the present design elements, we can’t deny the admiration and wonder we feel when a certain collection parades a refreshing line of pieces. It’s a rare moment many may have felt since Louis Vuitton announced the second collaboration with the renowned Japanese avant-garde artist, Yayoi Kusama.

Marking the 10th anniversary since their first collaboration, Yayoi Kusama makes an appearance once again in Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2023 collection, where two artists from different art forms collide to bring forth a reinterpretation of their individual artistry—a one-of-a-kind encounter.

It’s quite an unusual combination of flair of both the artist and the brand’s creative director. While Yayoi Kusama is known for her dynamic and playful designs that reflect her enthusiasm for dots, Nicolas Ghesquière made a mark in the fashion world with his eccentric and modern futuristic creativity that is seen on his designs.

In the ready-to-wear pieces, it is evident that the collection heavily relied on Yayoi’s unique pattern of colorful dots. From outwear such as denim jackets to striking red trousers decorated with white dots, Yayoi’s creative spirit definitely shined across the collection.

But the main star of the collaboration? The line of exclusive leather Louis Vuitton bags adorned with Nicolas and Yayoi’s designs. Signature shapes of the Maison’s bags were seen with colorful dots, while some were finished with round metal embellishments—a different take on the avant-garde artist’s usual medium, and it’s not hard to guess who gave it a twist.

The exclusive line made an appearance in Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2023 show in San Diego. And while some pieces made themselves known to the public, we have yet to wait for the dynamic line to hit the stores worldwide in January 2023.
