For one thing, the finish line at these sports events gives you a tangible goal to work towards. Whatever the length of the run, training for a race can provide a sense of purpose. This newfound focus will drive you to reach new heights and to go past the limits you thought you had. All the while, the physical training you’ll have to do could improve your cardiovascular health, strengthen your muscles, increase your endurance, and manage your weight.

Moreover, all that exercise will tap into your happy hormones, which can improve your mood and reduce stress levels. Another positive impact on your mental health would be the sense of accomplishment and the mental resilience gained through pursuing your fitness goals. Not only that, but if your run supports a charitable cause, you’d be able to contribute to a positive change, thereby adding an extra layer of that sense of fulfillment.

Finally, consider the community you could be a part of by becoming a runner. By joining races and marathons, you’ll be surrounded by like-minded individuals who share a passion for fitness or a cause, thus giving you a sense of community. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced runner, you’ll find support and encouragement from fellow runners and even spectators. Additionally, that camaraderie and support from the running community can help you stay motivated and accountable to the rest of your fitness goals.

All these things considered, it’s no wonder that so many people—from celebrities and influencers to pro athletes—love races and marathons as well.

First, it’s worth mentioning that there will be several Spartan Race Philippines events to look forward to, with more surely to be announced as the year progresses. Specifically, look into the San Mateo Spartan Trailfecta, especially if you want a classic trail run experience without obstacles. While a trail race is a great option for those who prefer running in nature, road running is the classic choice. With just until January 16 to register, maybe you’d want to opt for the 7-Eleven Run happening across Manila, Iloilo, and Cagayan De Oro from February 3 to 4. Likewise, if you’re up for the challenge, consider registering for tACbo, which is taking place on January 14 at Ayala Triangle Gardens. There are six race categories from 1 km to 21 km, with one being a 1 km dog run.

For the challenge of a full marathon, you might also want to consider the TCS Clark Animo International Marathon, an annual running event held in Clark, Pampanga. Registration for this event is also only until January 16 since race day is on March 3. Besides the full 42 km category, you have the option to run 2.5 km, 5 km, 10 km, and 21 km. Need more time to train? Consider the Asics Rock ’n’ Roll Running Series, which has four race categories, from 5 km to a full marathon. Race day is on November 24 and registration opens on January 5.
