7 Fast Facts About The MEGA Millennial Ball

As today marks the release of the much-awaited The New PH Documentary, many of us can’t seem to get enough—from endlessly scrolling though the #MEGAMillennialBall hashtag on Instagram to looking back at Furne One’s spectacular fashion show. If you’re still suffering from a hangover like we are, we’ve got a little something for you: 7 fast facts about the annual MEGA Millennial Ball.

1. It all began eight years ago

It was in 2010 when the MEGA Pinoy Pride Ball—known as the MEGA Millennial Ball for the past two years—was created by MEGA’s founding editor Sari Yap and personality Tim Yap.


2. The very first Pinoy Pride Ball was held at the Manila Hotel

The very first Pinoy Pride Ball was held at the Champagne Room at the Manila Hotel. The venue was chosen to go in line with the ball’s theme, which was all about Filipino fabrics and the terno.


3. #TheNewPH campaign began five years ago

After the first five years of the Pinoy Pride Ball, MEGA began their social media campaign, “TheNewPH. The movement wanted to inspire these Filipino individuals as well, reminding them that the winners were not just limited to the annual New PH awardees. Big or small, every effort to contribute to society should be recognized.


4. From Pinoy Pride Ball to the MEGA Millennial Ball

2017’s ball highlighted the emerging voice of the millennials, explaining how the name the MEGA Millennial Ball came about. The most influential millennials were invited, dressed in what was called “modern Filipiniana.”

5. The story behind our June cover

This year’s June cover was meant to pay homage to #MakingMEGA, bringing stars  Maja Salvador, Erich Gonzales, Nadine Lustre, Julia Barretto, Janella Salvador, Elise Joson, Gabbi Garcia, Maymay Entrata and Kisses Delavin together. In addition to their #MakingMEGA features, they were also chosen because the team believed they were able to maximize and grow in their respective platforms.

6. Amato designer Furne One was the very first MEGA YDC winner

On the 9th year of MEGA’s annual ball, Furne One’s 25th year anniversary in the fashion industry was celebrated through a show-stopping fashion show of his line, Amato. In addition to this, many were delighted to learn that the designer was the very first winner of the MEGA Young Designers Competition.


7. It was Furne One’s most expensive show to date

After all, with more than two decades of experience under his belt, it only made sense for the Amato designer to create his most extravagant show in the country to date. Furne also shares that the inspiration for his collection was his evolution as a designer.
