A rather unique narrative plays out in Gucci’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection titled, Twinsburg. Taking inspiration directly from his childhood, Alessandro Michele expresses his interpretation of the original and the copy— a twinship that shaped his world.
Duplicated, identical, and uniformed. We are ushered into a state of wonder as two beings seemingly merge into one yet are uniquely different from each other. It’s a magical occurrence Alessandro Michele dives into and we’re here to guide you through the fantastical world of twinship.
The collection explorers various silhouettes, patterns, and textures. It has become a play of blended emblems and icons we have grown to be familiar with— elements that were utilized to create a rather distinct look.
Throughout the collection, an oriental theme reigned for most looks. Heavily influenced by Chinese culture, Alessandro Michele expressed his fascination with details such as the Cheongsam silhouette, oriental prints, and delicate floral embroidery.
Alongside the cultural influence, a touch of peculiar yet modern style flaunts in the runway as well. Structured silhouettes executed with eccentric prints and vivid colors— it is truly a one-of-a-kind collection.
And a playful visit from the film, Gremlins, was introduced on the runway by Alessandro Michele. As seen peeking from their bags, it’s a motif that Alessandro Michele viewed as a complement to the House codes and an element that adds to their theme of duality.
Plastered across the showroom are black and white headshots of all 68 pairs of twin models. A resemblance that is so uncanny yet each one expressing various emotions— a display of distinct characters.
More so, it’s an unforgettable and striking collection Gucci has once again showcased.
