In a masterclass for hair health, Mark Anthony Rosales, founder of Marqed Salon, blends science and technology to craft the ultimate curriculum for healthy locks
Hair care is more than the usual wash-and-go. That may be what we’ve been taught, but hairstylist and salon owner Mark Anthony Rosales says there’s more to it than that. At MEGA BeautyCon 2024, he delivered a masterclass focused on scalp care, the often-neglected part of our beauty routine. With the right mix of innovative tech, personalized treatments, and know-how from the experts, he redefined what it means to truly care for our tresses, and through his session, made one thing clear: healthier hair starts at the roots.

The Scalp Revolution
Mark began his masterclass with a fresh take on hair care, insisting it’s not just about styling, but what happens at the root level. “I believe that the scalp is also part of your skin,” he said, inviting everyone to rethink how to treat their tresses. After all, if you’re ignoring your scalp, you’re missing already missing half the equation.
His journey into the field is just as insightful as his session. Six years back, he spotted a gap in the industry and decided to innovate. “That’s why I introduced hair scanning. I am the first in the Philippines to use hair scanning [during] hair consultations,” he proudly shared with the audience. He also had muse Sofia Pablo with him on stage to demonstrate how the scanner functions and how can reveal a person’s hair needs.
High-Tech Treatments
What are the main culprits behind our scalp woes? Mark lists four major issues, with hair loss being the most common. He stressed that fixing these problems requires more than a one-time visit: “It’s a system. You need to have post-home care, and you need to be consistent.”
To start this system, he assessed muse Sofia’s scalp using the scanner, starting with the crown, the sideburns, and working down to the nape. Mark also pointed some of his favorite brands that blend technology with hair care, from tools to products. At his salon, they also use red light therapy and a cool nanosteam-enclosed iron, proving that he is pushing boundaries in hair care and bringing innovation to the forefront.
The Era of ‘Skinnification’
Mark is all about what he calls “skinnification,” the idea that we should pamper our scalps just like we do our skin. He champions the use of ingredients that hydrate and nourish, particularly glycerin, squalane, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid. If there’s anything we can pick up from this, it’s that it pays to splurge where it counts.
Lest we forget: hair care isn’t one-size-fits all affair. “Most salons give a very generic treatment, but knowing the specific status of your own hair helps us cure specific problems. Remember, we’re all unique individuals,” explained the hair stylist. It’s certainly a wake-up call to truly tune in to what our hair needs rather than settling for cookie-cutter solutions.
Mark’s masterclass was an insightful end to the series of masterclasses for the day. He made clear that the future of hair care is about being as intentional with our scalps as we are with our skincare routines.
