100 years after it was founded, Gucci remains one of the most beloved brands in the fashion world, thanks to its ability to stay true to its heritage and yet move easily and elegantly to the future. This is clearly seen in Gucci Beloved, the latest collection of bags that has the fashion world in a tizzy.
The Good Life
Gucci is synonymous with the glittering glamour of la dolce vita. The label, currently under the masterful direction of Alessandro Michele, takes this concept of the good life and imbues it in every aspect of the brand. The latest bag collection for instance, is rich with the motifs and tell-tale signs of high living. From the stunning Dionysius to the plush GG Marmont and popular Gucci Horsebit 1955, all feature differing, distinct looks, but share the same timeless appeal.
Far from simply looking like a vintage piece snuck out from grandmother’s wardrobe, each one also looks remarkably at home with modern sensibilities and style. The bags suit a wide array of styles: they can elevate a basic ensemble, add uptown flair to downtown edge, and complete a fashion week outfit. Such is the power of Gucci’s design heritage, Alessandro Michele’s design prowess and the bags’ standing as objects of abject desire.
Beloved Bags
At the heart of the collection is the Dionysius, which was released in 2015 to a tremendous reception. While it quickly achieved It Bag status, it has, years later, continued to win over the new admirers and maintains its appeal to owners. Available in an array of materials—from the GG Supreme canvas (a material with low environmental impact) soft suede, supple leather and even wool, the Dionysius is a new wardrobe essential. With its now-iconic double tiger-head closure, adjustable chain strap and double gussets, it is emblematic of Michele’s creative direction. Also part of the collection is the wildly popular Gucci GG Marmont, with its soft matelassé exterior and interlocking Gs. This is also considered an “essential” for bag lovers and Gucci fans and season after season, it is rendered in a variety of styles, from buckets to minis and totes. Meanwhile, the stunning Gucci Horsebit 1955, another classic shoulder bag that Michele lifted from the archives and imbued with modern sensibilities. Its equestrian roots make up a strong part of Gucci’s history, with its double ring and bar design. Under Michele’s direction, the Horsebit is a perfect day-to-night purse, a statement that speaks of its wearer’s style and taste. Lastly, there is the classic Jackie 1961, with its winsome, vintage shape speaks of femininity’s power, recalling the iconic woman it was named after.
This season, they come in a variety of iterations: from stunning tricolor combinations of white, black and burnt orange or inspired by the glittering jewels sapphires, emeralds and rubies. There are nautical themes, exotic croc and ostrich leather, python trims and dazzling enamel locks. There is one for every style, one for every look—each one dearly beloved.
