Jo Koy hosted the 81st Golden Globe Awards, and his jokes for tonight garnered an array of reactions from celebrities in attendance, from Taylor Swift to Harrison Ford
This year, half-Filipino stand up comedian Jo Koy led the 81st Golden Globe Awards. Wearing a Tom Ford suit for tonight’s festivities, he welcomed the creatives working on television, film, and music for another year of celebrating their talents.

Opening act
He began the show with a 10-minute monologue, mentioning the names of veteran actors and nominated movies and series for this year, including Oppenheimer. “I loved the Oppenheimer! I just got one complaint,” he said. “It needed another hour!” While Robert Downey Jr. sported an amused look, Cillian Murphy smiled. Jo Koy then followed up that the film needed another season.
Alongside the Christopher Nolan film, the host also acknowledged Greta Gerwig’s Barbie that went head-to-head with the former in their box office showing. “Oppenheimer is based on a 720 one-page Pulitzer Prize-winning book about The Manhattan Project. And Barbie is on a plastic doll with big boobies!” Jo Koy commented, with the director giving a somewhat vague nod.
Celebrity reactions
Meanwhile, veteran Indiana Jones actor Harrison Ford did a side glance when the comedian said, “The key moment in Barbie is when she goes from perfect beauty to bad breath, cellulite, and flat feet. Or what casting directors call a ‘character actor.’”

And lastly, one of the most trending moments of the 2024 Golden Globes was Taylor Swift’s reaction of pressing her lips and drinking her wine after Jo Koy made a joke about her attendance at the Kansas City Chiefs games. “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? On the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift, I swear!” he commented.
