Kris Aquino has announced that she is engaged to former Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary, Mel Senen Sarmiento.
In an Instagram post, the Queen Of All Media shared a heartwarming photo collage of pink and white roses, as it’s soon revealed to be given by the politician as they share a video together announcing their engagement.
Kris and Mel have been making rounds as early as August of 2021, as she posted a birthday message for the then-anonymous suitor.
In the engagement announcement, Kris shared that she and Mel had been pondering on the decision, but eventually decided to share their special moment with supporters.
The sweet announcement
Kris first shared that she had dropped to 95 pounds amid the pandemic and after the death of her brother, former president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III on June 24 – yet that was how she and Mel reconnected.
“Somehow I believe there really was a matchmaker in heaven who must be smiling now,” Kris shared. “I can almost hear his voice telling me, “Kristina, tama na, respect the fact na gusto ni Mel ng tahimik na buhay.” And finally, “bunso” has learned to obey.”
She then thanked Mel for entering her life and loving her sons.
“To my best friend and the man I said yes to spending the rest of my life with, thank you for as Bimb said, loving me for me, with no agenda, and for being just an overall good and patient man. It’s unreal how much more calm & peaceful I feel now that you’re here.”
She continued to thank Noynoy for the blessing of Mel, saying “You must have known how broken I’d be to lose you, so you made sure there was someone who not only helped wipe away my tears, he’s made it possible for me to smile and laugh again.”
“Dumating nung hindi ko hinahanap o inaasahan- kaya nga tama silang lahat na nagsabi in God’s perfect time.”
Meanwhile, Sarmiento has been a longtime politician, serving as Calbayog City vice mayor from 1992 to 1995 and eventually mayor from 2001 to 2010. In 2015, he became DILG Secretary under the Pnoy administration.
