CITEM, the export promotion arm of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), has skillfully guided Manila FAME, turning it into a versatile and impressive event. This transformation is a result of collaborations with both public and private entities. Manila FAME has evolved beyond a typical trade show as it’s now a sophisticated blend of creativity and business.
Dr. Edward L. Fereira, the Executive Director of CITEM, excels at connecting Filipino talent and businesses with the right audience. He emphasizes the vital role of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), stating, “MSMEs are the core of the export industry, driving Manila FAME’s long-standing success.” Their unwavering dedication to showcasing Filipino creativity has established Manila FAME as a symbol of top-quality products in the global market.
Yet, it’s not limited to displaying goods; it’s also about fostering progress. DTI Undersecretary Carol Sanchez emphasized the government’s commitment to creating a favorable environment for the growth of local MSMEs. This focus is on digitization and the digital transformation of MSMEs. CITEM extended this digital effort through fameplus.com, Manila FAME’s digital platform.
This collaboration extends further. Dr. Sergio R. Ortiz-Luis Jr., the President and CEO of PhilExport, values the excellent partnership between his organization and CITEM. Together, they have a vital role in presenting top-notch Philippine products on the global stage, solidifying the Philippines’ status as a preferred source for high-quality goods and services.
However, the true highlights are the designers. Tony Gonzales, Rita Nazareno, and Gabby Lichauco are at the forefront of the Design Commune, where they’ve embarked on a creative exploration. In a media briefing, this exhibition introduces fresh home, fashion, and lifestyle items, and they’ve embraced a practical approach to their work.
Gonzales introduced his collaboration, named “Blues on Blue” and “Naturals and White”. He provided insight into the detailed design processes and enjoyable interactions with local MSMEs. With three decades of industry experience, Gonzales finds inspiration directly from the artisans. It’s always a joint effort; he listens to the workers and values their contributions.
Meanwhile, Nazareno and Lichauco have adopted “utilitarianism” as their theme, drawing inspiration from artifacts, foraging, and glamping. They wish to see companies expand their horizons, escape their comfort zones, and design with the end-users in mind. Their fun and engaging process involves listening to the companies’ needs and creating from there, ensuring a seamless blend of artistry and utility.
Manila FAME goes beyond just displaying products; it also serves as a platform for informative discussions. The event includes a series of talks that address various subjects, including Filipino fashion, global trends, and market insights. It’s an educational experience for all participants, enriching the showcase with depth and insights.
Manila FAME, along with its online version FAME+ (fameplus.com), has become champions of Philippine artisans’ craftsmanship. This event is about business through the celebration of Filipino creativity, aimed at presenting it to the world.
