Rei Germar’s Secret Is Creating Beauty Out Of Her Flaws

Rei Germar has conquered YouTube in just 4 years. The secret to her success is not her beauty, but the flaws she has learned to accept.

How could someone be an inspiration when they’re already perfect? As the number of influencers continue to grow, the online community has learned to filter out the noise. We don’t need someone who displays a perfect life. If life was that easy, we would just be as thriving as the next Youtuber. That’s why when we find an influencer who understands our flaws and insecurities it’s easy to become a fan. Rei Germar is that person for millions of girls out there.

She became the online friend we could turn to when we needed help with fashion, beauty, and relationships. When the YouTuber reached her first million views it was for a video that showed women how to dress on a budget through ukay ukay. As she continued her career, she cemented her voice online by displaying an honest and real perspective as a young Filipina living in Manila. She did this by moving on to budget friendly beauty hauls and body positive content. The more she learned about herself, the more we were able to grow with her. And, that’s how you create a strong and loyal following.

The secret to her success was never because of the fabulous life she was able to achieve. It was because of her perfectly imperfect journey that she was so willing to share with her viewers. We saw Rei grow up right before our eyes. From a quirky unicorn-loving college student to a sophisticated young woman of the world, Rei Germar became bigger than her flaws. She conquered all of her insecurities simply by making them her source of power. It may sound easy, when you read it off of an article but it was a lot harder than that in real life.

Journey To The Center Of Self Discovery

Insecurities leaves no one behind. Even women as gorgeous as Rei experience self-doubt and feelings of unworthiness because of unreachable beauty standards we all see in media. In reality, beauty has always been subjective. Beauty is a spectrum. Despite this hard fact, we still take other’s idea of beauty as Bible. Rei experienced this at a very young age when she would get straightening treatments to change her hair texture.

“My hair has been through a lot. Since I wasn’t confident with my hair, I started having it rebonded when I was in 5th grade. Imagine! I was 11 years old! I think I was doing YouTube already when I finally decided to grow out my natural hair,” shares Rei.

Just like Rei, we may even go as far as hating our hair and skin because it doesn’t comply with the standard.

It’s a hard lesson to unlearn when you’ve been surrounded by propaganda to make you believe you are not enough. Rei has always been open about the hardships of her self love journey. “Finally loving my body didn’t happen overnight. I went through a lot of body treatments and even altering my photos to please the internet world,” shares Rei.

So instead of letting her insecurities take over her, she used them to empower herself. We asked Rei about how she views her flaws now to which she answered,

Definitely, it’s not about eradicating your flaws. It’s about taking care of what you already have. Rei’s insecurity about her skin became the reason why so many of her viewers look up to her. Now, the vlogger embraces her dark skin and maintains its natural glow by using SNAILWHITE.

In doing so, she allows herself to grow in the healthiest way possible. There are sacred moments of contemplation, re-evaluation, and acceptance in her daily routine. When asked about maintaining this healthy environment, she shares, “With the amount of time I spend working with other people, I try my best to have an alone time. To reflect and do things for myself like journaling, skin care and long baths.”

Once you understand your humanity, everything comes in second. The insecurities from appearance, class, and status all fades to the back. When you’re working on something bigger than yourself, with a sureness and confidence like that of Rei’s, you become unstoppable. “Recognize your strengths and your weaknesses. Use your strengths to your advantage. If there are things in your weakness list that you can change, work on it. Then accept the things you can’t,” says Rei. There is still so much we can learn about ourselves together and having someone who gets the process is vital to that growth. We don’t know what the future has in store for us, but we do know we’ll be facing it under the guidance of powerful women like Rei Germar.
