SB19’s Felip Shows His Soft Side With This Song Cover

By

Taking a break from his edgy looks and strong rap flow, Felip from SB19 just performed a cover of Never the Strangers’ hit, “Moving Closer”

Revolving his sound and style in sharp and striking elements, SB19’s Felip is known for his dominantly black street ensembles and deep voice that alternately switches between flow and song. Dark, mysterious, edgy. But in his latest cover, the boy band member also known as Ken captivated A’TINs with his sweet, soft side.

Going for an acoustic vibe with only a guitar accompaniment, the SB19 multi-hyphenate performed his own rendition of “Moving Closer” in celebration of Warner Music Philippines’ 30th anniversary.

The track was originally performed by the band Never the Strangers, and written by Anthony Libre, also known as Ace. The four-member band was originally composed of him, JP Del Mundo, Nash Ignacio, and Gab Palanca. Today, Libre and Ignacio are joined by Bert Ong as a three-piece group. Never the Strangers is currently signed with Balcony Entertainment, under the leadership of Rico Blanco, who discovered the band in 2011.

Meanwhile, Felip has also established his individuality as an artist over the years. Discovering his own sound beyond their P-Pop group SB19, he released his first single, “Palayo,” in September 2021. The sultry, R&B track featured three languages, including Bisaya, Tagalog, and English. Known as the group’s main dancer, he also exhibited his smooth moves in the music video.

The following year, the artist came out with his second single, “Bulan,” which was then followed by “ROCKSTA” in 2023. That same year, the singer-songwriter also released his first EP called COMPLEX, composed of six tracks, including his third single.

Felip’s latest track is reminiscent of his past covers, such as The Corrs’ hit, “Runaway.” Does this mean we will be looking forward to more stripped down, acoustic tracks from him soon? We can only hope!
