A sweet way to wrap the year

This season, the actress went for a white tree adorned with a baby pink accent color. Going for a more youthful theme, Kim chose lollipops, candy canes, sprinkled leaves, donuts, and cupcakes for her ornaments. She completed the whole design with dolls and nutcracker statues below the tree. “Gusto ko for this year, [kind of] sweet and light lang ‘yung magiging Christmas tree ko. Sobrang kakaiba sa mga Christmas tree na nagawa ko,” Kim pointed out at the introduction of her vlog.

She further explained, “Parang hindi lang bukal sa loob ko gumawa talaga ng Christmas tree this year, but I tried.”

The turn of events

This year, the Kapamilya star was a force to be reckoned with in terms of her career. Back in January, she bagged her first hosting award at the 35th PMPC Star Awards for Television. After several appearances in the show as a guest co-host, Chiu finally became a regular presence on It’s Showtime in 2020.

Back in July, she renewed her exclusive contract with ABS-CBN, declaring that she will always remain a Kapamilya. This came after her eight-episode series on Prime called Fit Check: Confessions of an Ukay Queen. It was then followed by Linlang, which premiered in October.

Her chemistry with co-star Paulo Avelino has charmed the fans, earning them a second project right after the drama-thriller. They are headlining the Philippine adaptation of What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim, the hit 2018 Korean series starring Park Seo Joon and Park Min Young.

While Kim kept herself abuzz with work, she kept mum on her alleged breakup with Xian Lim, who she started dating in 2011. Meanwhile, she focused her energy on strengthening her bond with friends Angelica Panganiban and Bela Padilla, as well as spending more time with her It’s Showtime family in Hong Kong. As of now, the actress-host is devoting much of her time shooting for her upcoming series with Avelino, hosting the noontime show, and updating her fans through her vlogs.

A true Christmas princess

For the star, the practice of putting up a tree had a sentimental meaning for her ever since. Recalling the act as a longtime childhood dream of hers, Chiu would really take the time in curating her tree of the year.

In 2019, Kim opted for pink, white, and silver elements to highlight her green tree. The following year, she went for a more traditional color with a red and white theme. She then decided to play around with an all-white tree and varied the ornaments she chose for 2021 and 2022. This year marks the first time she put up an inverted tree.

Turning a new page as she begins a new chapter, Kim captured her outlook on life for the coming year with her assembled Christmas tree this 2023. “It symbolizes something sweet, something new, something quite different.”
