From facing challenges, overcoming beauty standards, to finding their ultimate self, The MEGA Women’s Circle Talk was a day of celebrating and empowering women
For generations upon generations, women all over the world have been subjected to the pressures of beauty culture. In a world where a woman’s value is tied to their ability of staying conventionally beautiful for decades into their life, aging has become somewhat taboo instead of something to look forward to. As we grow older, our bodies change along with it, but most of us forget that we can always aid it to transition beautifully and gracefully over the years.
This was the focus of MEGA’s Women’s Circle Talk last September 15. Brought to you by Myra Ultimate, women from different industries were brought together by their shared passion for redefining beauty in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and even beyond.
Creating a safe space for every woman
In an intimate gathering over lunch, Kelly Misa-Fernandez, Myra Ultimate’s newest brand ambassador, sat down with Karylle, Denise Laurel, and MEGA Entertainment Editor MJ Marfori as they opened the dialogue on redefining beauty and unlocking their ultimate even through aging. Through this panel of beautiful and confident women, a safe space was created for everyone who is facing challenges in this era of their lives where questions of what ifs are already arising in terms of them staying beautiful and reaching their peak as they grow older.
“To be honest, there are really heavy standards, not just at our age, and not just in our industry. But I think every woman here in their own field has so many hurdles to pass. Everyday you wake up and you realize that it’s a privilege and a blessing to be alive, and the [thought of aging] kind of falls away,” actress and singer Denise Laurel says when asked about how she overcomes the entertainment industry’s beauty standards as she grows older. “People can just say whatever they want to say. I follow my passion. I follow what brings me joy. I follow gratitude, and that makes me look younger every single day,” Denise adds.
For singer-songwriter Karylle, she admits that healing her inner child has incredibly helped her face every hurdle. “The one who saw the world with such innocent eyes, who saw beauty differently without all these standards we have now put up, the inner child just loves what she loves. No one told her what to like, dislike, or how to feel bad about herself. So I guess healing that has helped me a lot,” Karylle candidly confides.
Finding their ultimate selves
Aging comes along with a lot of questions and self-doubt. What if I’ve reached my peak? What if it’s all downhill from here? But what a lot tend to overlook is the fact that aging means living, and living means endless opportunities to come. Model and writer Patty Laurel-Filart share the same sentiments.
“Aging is a part of my story. It’s something that I’m really proud of because it means there’s more years of a happy life to be grateful about,” Patty says.
With a life full of wonders to still explore, reaching a certain age is merely a stamp in the grand scheme of things. “Nowadays, the barrier has been broken and we can be who we want to be. Age is just a number,” Kelly explains. As we grow older, we experience a world full of potential and gain wisdom through it—and that’s the beauty of aging. Decades of knowledge may be already under our belt, but decades more are still in store for us to welcome. Our lives are complex yet spectacular in a sense that one peak doesn’t define a person, because upcoming heights still await.
“Being at your prime, to me when you look at it like a graph, it doesn’t go down. I think it’s really up to you to make that choice to keep elevating your life… And the best way to achieve a sustainable longevity for our bodies is to do it from within,” actress and singer Antoinette Taus shares. It’s really up to us to take charge of our lives and steer it in the direction we actually want. Fortunately for us, we don’t have to be alone on this journey.
As a brand that has a deep understanding of women’s needs, Myra Ultimate has made it their mission to empower every woman as they set forth in their golden years with unwavering beauty and confidence. “It’s really for empowering women like me to face aging as something positive, something to not be afraid of, something that helps me boldly say ‘I’m 40, I’m happy, and I have Myra Ultimate to take care of me from the inside out,” Patty says.
As the tension of the passing years slowly sinks in, we often find security in religiously following a curated skincare regimen with a handful of serums and creams. Our skincare routines are indeed essential but topical solutions can only get you so far. Which is why it’s important to tackle it from within. After all, beauty is beyond surface level. Through Myra Ultimate, women all over the world are confident in facing the coming years with their chin up and hopeful eyes because they know that their best is still yet to come.
After the insightful panel discussion with the four gorgeous Myra Women, MEGA Beauty Director Agoo Bengzon and Marketing Head and Division Vice President of UL Skin Sciences Inc. Kathy Carag concluded the short yet profound event with their closing remarks. Before lunch was served, every woman was given an exclusive box courtesy of Myra Ultimate containing special items to help document the momentous day of celebrating women, and to allow them to dictate their own narrative on how they can unlock their ultimate self no matter their age.
