2024 Awards Season Beauty Trends We Expect to See More on the Red Carpet

2024 Awards Season Beauty Trends We Expect to See More on the Red Carpet

By

If there’s anything the best beauty looks at the 2024 Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, and Emmys taught us, it’s that red carpet glamor is back—better and in more diverse ways. The glam teams of these actors and actresses have red carpet glamor down to a science, from the precise way hair falls to the exact gleam of a manicure. Every artist has their own vision and technique, but repetitions are bound to happen. Given everything we’ve seen from this awards season thus far, we’ve listed the beauty trends we expect to make repeat appearances at the remaining red carpet events—namely, the Grammys, BAFTA Awards, and Oscars.

Less is more

The past few years spawned a renewed love for no-makeup makeup looks in the form of glass skin and glazed donut skin trends. These then are typically paired with sleek buns or wet hair and no falsies to complete the clean and natural look. We saw more of this stripped-down approach to beauty this past awards season, with the most notable wearers of this look being Hunter Schafer at the Golden Globes and Greta Lee at the Critics Choice Awards.

Natural nails

There’s definitely still room for creative acrylic designs, but the natural skin-toned manicure is the clear trend among actresses on red carpet events. Some of the biggest names in Hollywood sported natural nails, like Amanda Seyfried, Sarah Snook, and Elle Fanning at the Golden Globes, Margot Robbie and Emma Stone at the Critics Choice Awards, and Jessica Chastain at the Emmys.

Monochrome makeup

Monochrome makeup is a flawless approach to a cohesive beauty edit. And as seen on the A-lists, you can’t go wrong with a brown-toned or pink-toned color palette for your eyes, lips, and cheeks. A key example of the former is America Ferrera at the 29th Critics Choice Awards and Margot Robbie at the 81st Golden Globes for the latter. Their makeup artists were Linda Hay and Pati Dubroff, respectively.

90s nostalgia

As expected, the nostalgia for 90s-era beauty persists, manifesting prominently among young Hollywood artists like Billie Eilish, Camila Morrone, and Ariana Greenblatt. From the smudged black eyeliner to the brown-lined lips, these three would not look out of place on a 90s-era red carpet. Missing, of course, are the iconic thin eyebrows, which have been replaced by today’s standard of fluffed and feathered eyebrows.

Architectural updos

Hair architecture also had its moment this past awards season. Key examples include Calah Lane’s hair art at the Critics Choice Awards, Jasmin Savoy Brown’s “twisted crown” hairstyle at the Emmys, and Florence Pugh’s faux-hawk at the Golden Globes. We also can’t forget hairstylist Davide Barbieri’s work on Rosamund Pike, who said the updo was “inspired by the appliqué flowers on the dress and the chemise.”

Stylish bobs and lobs

Short hair was also a favorite among the actresses present at the 2024 Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, and Emmys. Among those who donned shorter tresses, there were two common hair trends: Old Hollywood and the Flipped Bob. Key examples of the former include Cailee Spaeny and Greta Lee at the 81st Golden Globes. For the latter, we have inspired looks from Danielle Brooks and Ayo Edebiri, who opted for the slicked-back flipped bob.
