The GMA Sparkle Spell 2023 is coming real soon, so we’re taking a quick throwback trip to some of last year’s best looks

Last year, Kapuso stars and invited guests took their Halloween creativity to the next level with their looks for the GMA Sparkle Spell 2022. At the red carpet, we witnessed a number of characters and figures come to life through the artists. From the rising talents to the established actors, everyone came prepared to celebrate October’s momentous occasion.

In this year’s “fabulously frightening” concept, there will be timeless themes that will surely make a mark. If you are in anticipation of your favorite actor’s outfit or simply searching for some costume ideas, here’s some of your favorite Kapuso artists who can help you own your spooky style this Halloween season.

Keeping history alive

Before starring as Freya in the series Urduja, Miss Universe Philippines 2022 Michelle Dee actually dressed up as the Pangasinan princess-warrior Urduja for last year’s GMA Sparkle Spell party. Aside from winning the Sexiest Costume Award that night, her look definitely deserved to be celebrated for its representation of women’s power and strength. Truly, a costume you would expect from a woman with substance.

Going out of the box

Channeling Ursula at last year’s event seemed to be a sign for Andrea Torres’ current role as the seductive kontrabida Stella in Love Before Sunrise. Her Best Dressed Female ensemble showcased her commitment to playing The Little Mermaid villainess with her white wig and violet body makeup. More villain roles for the actress? Yes, please!

Paying some pop culture homage

If you are looking for a Halloween costume for you and your partner, an easy reference would be fashion pop culture references from the past. Take Gabbi Garcia and Khalil Ramos as an example. Their denim-on-denim moment was actually inspired by the matching red carpet outfits of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake at the 2001 American Music Awards. Just a pro-tip, though! Perhaps go for another pairing reference this time around?

Dressing as your fictional fave

Another advantage of getting into video games is transforming yourself into your favorite character. Tying in his love for Final Fantasy VIII with the Sparkle Spell 2022, Alden Richards dressed up as Squall Leonhart. The actor made sure to keep all details in check, especially with the gunblade. Truly, his Best Dressed Male Award came as no surprise.

Channeling your own character

Attending the event with a partner does not mean you have to stick with costume pairings. Just like Miguel Tanfelix and Ysabel Ortega, you can go your own ways and still look cohesive in pictures! How to achieve this? Find a common color that you can both play around with. It was a good thing that Edward Scissorhands and the Black Swan had the same base shade for their looks.
