Julia Barretto made waves yesterday, September 1, when she revealed that had joined the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) alongside boyfriend and lieutenant Gerald Anderson. Though the two had traveled far and wide, this definitely serves as a new challenge for the 24-year-old star.
But what exactly is the PCGA?
ICYDK, the PCGA is a “voluntary, civilian support group of the Philippine Coast Guard.” Unlike the Philippine Coast Guard that deploys soldiers, the PCGA is a non-government and non-political group that supports the national navy or coast guard through “search and rescue operations, environmental protection, disaster relief, community service, and marine safety.”
PCGA members are also expected to perform their duties simultaneously with their careers so it’s become a popular choice for celebrities who want to serve their country in their own way.
Gerald has been a member of the PCGA since 2018, but he and Julia aren’t the only celebs who’ve joined the coveted team. Check out these other familiar names who are part of the PCGA.
