The golden age
With a continuous presence in Formula 1 championships, Scuderia Ferrari witnessed the sport’s first golden age in America. Mario Andretti’s 1971 South African Grand Prix victory immediately stirred interest, paving the way for racers like Peter Revson and Mark Donohue. Racing icons such as Jackie Stewart and Emerson Fittipaldi also played key roles in boosting the sport’s popularity. From 1976 to 1984, the USA held 19 World Championship races, along with nine in Canada, totaling 28 North American Grands Prix.
Timeless tints
In the first golden age of Formula 1 in America, Ferrari created some of its most iconic feats. One of the clear standouts was Niki Lauda’s triumph in the 1975 and 1977 world championships. Noteworthy victories continued with Clay Regazzoni at Long Beach in 1976 and Carlos Reutemann at Watkins Glen in 1978. “In those days, there was a lot of white alongside the red in the Ferrari livery, and this year, for the return to Las Vegas, the Scuderia decided to reprise it, producing an entirely red and white-only livery for the SF-23,” the team said in a statement.
Grateful for the support, especially from Puma, the team expresses appreciation for partners who allowed this choice. Drivers Charles and Carlos, echoing the sentiment, showcase their enthusiasm through videos on Ferrari’s Instagram account. The duo’s helmets and race suits will mirror the theme, boasting vibrant reds and whites for the special Las Vegas race.
Revved and ready
The anticipation builds as Ferrari revs up for the Las Vegas street circuit, eyeing a replay of their performance in Singapore this season. The particular race stands out as the only instance Red Bull tasted defeat, courtesy of Carlos Sainz’s second F1 triumph. Adding a twist to the norm, the Las Vegas Grand Prix shakes up the schedule with F1’s first Saturday race in nearly four decades.
