How KC Concepcion’s New Nail Polish Line Will Empower You

“It was really serendipity,” actress, TV host and jewelry designer KC Concepcion shares as she talks about how her new nail polish line with beloved beauty brand Happy Skin. “I was at a nail polish salon looking for products made in Korea and found out that Happy Skin’s was made there. Suddenly, Rissa Mananquil-Trillo (part-owner of the brand), who was having her nails done there as well, came up to me and introduced herself!” Since KC already had a specific color in mind, the two joked about creating a line together—a dream that quickly turned into a reality.

Fast forward to eight months later, when Happy Skin finally unveiled the limited-edition nail polish collaboration earlier this week. The line, #HappySkinxKC Express Gel Polish Collection (P299 each), consists of two wearable shades that flatter any skin tone—the deep cherry Power and the modern apricot-nude Beauty. “I wanted something really timeless and classic, something easy to wear,” KC tells us, adding that the vegan, toxic-free products are also perfect for those just starting to get into nail polish.

KC, who has always been enthusiastic about getting her nails done, shares that the habit was something she picked up from her grandmother: “She never approved of dirty nails in the house, so it stuck to me. To her, it’s hygiene, a form or being presentable. If you think about what shoes or lipstick you wear, you might as well think of your nails.”

In addition to this, the product’s bottles were also ornamented with KC’s favorite flower, the rose. The beauty believes that like a rose, a woman has many layers—she can be complex but beautiful, delicate but intriguing. KC shares that she believes that she only became a woman two years ago, when she turned 30. “When I was 30, I took a break from showbiz to go back to where I started,” she begins. “Before, I didn’t really know what I wanted. I was just following what other people wanted for me. The rose reminds me that you should have the confidence to live a life where you’re okay with doing things independently. Being a woman is being able to stand for something.” And that can begin in small, simple ways, such as using products that are good for both you and the environment.
