Created in 2011, Pound’s mission is to work out and rock out. Using exercise drumsticks called Ripstix, the exercise routine entails a full-body cardio session imbued with the energizing mix of music to feel like a drummer. With every 45-minute class, you stand to lose hundreds of pounds as the workout combines cardio, conditioning, and strength training.

What makes this workout different too, besides the use of drumsticks, is its use of yoga and pilates-inspired movements throughout the routine. Not only that but the Ripstix are lightly weighted to give you an effective workout for your shoulders, biceps, triceps, forearms, and back. Pound is also designed for all fitness levels, so everyone from beginners to gym junkies can benefit from this workout, whether it’s to tone, improve your balance and coordination, or lose weight. Research exploring this rising wave of drumming-based workouts also agreed that a Pound cardio-jam session is a moderate-intensity workout, making it a feasible alternative to traditional aerobic training programs.

Like many full-body workouts, Pound puts you through dozens of fat-burning sequences. And like other high-intensity fitness classes that integrate music, a Pound fitness class shifts your focus to the rhythms and the beats rather than on how much you’re struggling.

Certainly, there’s merit to the concept, as Pound has expanded to thousands of instructors based in over a hundred countries, one of which is the Philippines.

Group exercise classes

If you’re interested in giving Pound a try, we suggest joining different group classes to see which fits. There are 60-minute classes offered at Pretty Huge, for example, which is a multi-sports complex in BGC. Pound is also taught in select Anytime Fitness gyms, such as the one in Paseo Center. Other known gyms like Surge Fitness + Lifestyle and Stark Fitness Gym San Antonio offer this fitness class as well.
